District 13 - West Metro area

CO Brent Grewe (Minnetonka) spent the week checking anglers and boaters and following up on complaints. Grewe assisted with an officer water survival class provided to Minnesota sheriff?s deputies. Violations this week included no life jackets and license issues.

CO James Fogarty (Prior Lake) checked anglers. Fogarty is reminding many anglers that angling for any species of fish in designated trout lakes is closed until May 11. Fogarty took a TIP complaint of a hunter who took two turkeys near Shakopee. Fogarty spoke at a youth firearms safety class at the SCALE facility near Jordan.

CO Thephong Le (ELCOP) patrolled metro-area lakes and on the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers for angling and boating activities. He took enforcement action for no angling license, angling with extra lines, no fishing license, illegal angling methods, failure to display valid watercraft registration, operating an unregistered watercraft, insufficient PFDs, and no fire extinguisher. He attended a district meeting and took care of maintenance on issued equipment.

CO Alexander Birdsall (Waconia) responded to a suspicious activity call and during the investigation it was determined that the suspects had been doing ?doughnuts? in a farm field and then started shooting a shotgun into the air in the field. When asked why they did it, they responded they just wanted to blow off some steam.

CO Kylan Hill (Mound) reports contacting anglers and boaters on Lake Minnetonka who were getting ready for the walleye opener. Limits of crappie were seen. He gave a law and ethics talk to the Chaska firearms class. Hill provided some AIS training to Hennepin County Water Patrol. Hill also assisted Carver County with an incident.

CO Ben Ulrich (Osseo) spent the week working angling and boating enforcement. Time was also spent helping at the Deputy Boating School and assisting neighboring officers. Multiple fish and game violations were addressed over the week.

CO Mike Lerchen (Bloomington) spent time checking shore anglers and following up with TIP calls. Lerchen assisted with fishing opener media relations. Enforcement action was taken for fleeing on foot, failure to tag a turkey, allowing youth to violate game laws, and angling with an extra line.
