CO Derek Schneider (Zumbrota) focused on boating/angling enforcement. Anglers were having less success with the higher water conditions. Violations addressed during the week included trout-angling TIP calls, dumping garbage on state forest lands and failure to consent to a watercraft inspection. Schneider presented to a youth ATV safety class and assisted other agencies with several calls.

CO Joel Heyn (Plainview) worked mainly anglers and turkey hunters during the week. Many folks were out with the nice weather and fishing success was mixed. Heyn also did follow-up interviews on complaints with neighboring officers and enforcement action was taken on deer-season violations.

CO Annette Kyllo (Rochester #1) assisted other local COs this week following up on a TIP call regarding illegal hunting activity. Anglers encountered this week were reporting limited success but were looking forward to warmer weather to get the panfish bite going on local reservoirs.

CO Ryan Christenson (Rochester #2) continued checking turkey hunters throughout the week. Time was also spent on the Mississippi River checking anglers. Multiple safety violations were encountered.

CO Mitch Boyum (Rushford) reports checking turkey hunters in the area. Success seems to have gone up with some better weather. Birds also seem to be a little heavier than other years. A 28-pound bird was reported, along with multiple 27- and 26-pound birds. Boyum checked anglers along trout streams and investigated wetland and stream violations. Morel hunters were out in force over the weekend with some mushrooms being found. However, most folks found few and are waiting for better days.

CO Tyler Ramaker (La Crescent) conducted an ATV regulation update training for Houston County Sheriff?s deputies and local police departments for their annual in-service training. Turkey hunters checked continue to have steady success. With ample rain and warmer weather, morel mushrooms have started to pop out.

Winona vacant.
