District 9 - Brainerd area

CO Tony Flerlage (Crosby) checked beaver-trapping activity in the area. Anglers were out on nice days trying for panfish. Many boats are being put on the water for the first time this year with the weather warming. The Cuyuna Rec Area was patrolled for illegal use.

CO Jim Guida (Brainerd East) patrolled station lakes and ATV trails for activity this week. A trespassing complaint was fielded, and enforcement action was taken. Numerous carp/suckers were discovered dumped into a ditch near a public hunting ground. The carp were determined to have been harvested with archery equipment. Guida followed up on an aviation report of illegal cattails being cut on a popular lake. The enforcement action included citations and cease and desist orders being sent to the landowners.

CO Andrew Ladzinski (Pine River) spent time patrolling for turkey hunters and checking crappie anglers. He followed up on a complaint of a vehicle abandoned in Pine River. He transported an injured owl to a local animal hospital. He assisted the sheriff?s office in searching for a stolen watercraft.

CO Calie Cook (Crosslake) spent time checking anglers and boaters throughout the week. Cook also assisted in instructing at Deputy Boating School at Camp Ripley.

CO Matthew Brodin (Brainerd) spent the week checking turkey hunters and anglers. Brodin has noticed the number of ticks in the woods this year is at an extremely high level. Enforcement action was taken for failure to display ATV registration and operating an ATV in a closed forest.
